Made from steer's intestine, transparent or alum tawed, the Goldbeaters Skins are used for repairing parchment and vellum as well as other art applications.
Originally used as the interweaving material for beating gold into fine sheets. Due to the materials strength & endurance, it was an ideal material suitable for for this process, and thus, its name originated. Today outside the field of conservation, goldbeaters skin is also used to seal the reeds in an oboe.
Sold in sheets which are approximately 6" x 22" in size.
