Established in 1962, TALAS became the first company in the United States to serve the museum and library community with hand bookbinding and conservation supplies.
As a masters candidate in Library Studies at Columbia University, Elaine Haas saw the need for a company that could supply conservation materials that were otherwise inaccessible at the time.
She and her husband Herbert began searching the globe, finding new products and materials. From there, Technical Library Services (TLS) was born, which was later renamed TALAS.
Talas, an enormous loftlike shop, is the city’s most comprehensive source for bookbinding supplies.
Today the Salik family continues to operate TALAS, serving institutions, companies, and individuals around the world with the highest quality supplies and materials.
