Mission Statement

TALAS will continually strive to use our knowledge, innovation, and resources to provide the highest quality supplies and services to our customers. We believe our success is measured by the service we provide.

Story

Established in 1962 by Elaine and Herbert Haas, TALAS became the first company in the United States to serve the museum and library community with hand bookbinding and conservation supplies.

As a masters candidate in Library Studies at Columbia University, Elaine Haas worked closely with conservators who struggled to find the materials necessary for their practices. She and her husband, who had a background in Chemistry, saw the need for a company that could supply these materials that were otherwise inaccessible to conservators and bookbinders working in the United States. They began searching the globe, finding new products and materials that no one had ever heard of and bringing them back to the United States. From there, Technical Library Services (TLS) was born, which was later renamed TALAS!

Today the Salik family continues to operate TALAS as a family run business, serving institutions, companies, and individuals around the world with the highest quality supplies and materials available. Centered on customer service and a small business approach, we are continually expanding our product line to meet market trends and our customers' demands.

The Saliks’ background, commitment, and passion for the arts has been the driving force of the company as it continues to grow its legacy. Today their two children, Aaron and Jillian, have joined the company making it truly a family business in practice and in values.

What makes TALAS special is our passion for the arts, which we share with our friends and customers. Let our professional supplies and service complement your needs.
