Goatskin Bookbinding Leather

Genuine goatskin hides are sought after by book binders and conservators. Our skins are all specially processed for bookbinding purposes and are vegetable tanned and aniline dyed. Goatskins tend to have a more resilient surface than Calfskins, and have a more pronounced texture. Goatskins textures vary depending on the techniques used by the tannery. For example, our French Chagreen skins are hand boarded, which creates their distinctive fine crushed pattern. Most skins will require thinning, or paring. However we do sell several split options, which are sold in very thin substance (or thickness). These quality goat hides are available in a wide range of sizes, colors, qualities and finishes suitable for bookbinding and tooling.
