Bookbinders are always searching for quality and durable skins to compliment their bindings. The Franz Hoffman line of Heifer calf is something to consider.
Heifer(pronounced "HEFF-er,") is a very young Bovine Calf, usually between 2-4 years. The hides are natural and smooth, full grain, aniline dyed with a minimal amount of mineral tanning. Characteristically silky with a wonderful patina that fully develops over time. Very close to the finest calfskin in appearance but at an economical price.
Outstanding for gilding and blind tooling and used widely in book restoration.
