Mitsubishi Oxygen Absorber RP-A & RP-K
Description
The Mitsubishi Oxygen Absorbers RP-A & RP-K were specifically developed for long term storage and pest control.
RP-A removes oxygen and absorbs moisture in the environment. It is suitable for metals, electronics, and Archaeological finds. RP-A will reduce not only the oxygen but also the relative humidiy (rh to nearly zero percent in a sealed package. RP-A absorbers consist of unsaturated organic components: zeolite, polyethylene, activated carbon, and CaO. One RP-3A sachet can absorb approximately 0.66gram of water and the oxygen from 300mL of air.
RP-3A is suitable for 300mL of air. Sold in packs of 25 units
RP-20A is suitable for 200mL of air. Sold in packs of 10 units
RP-K removed oxygen but does not change the relative humidity, making it better suited for hydroscopic materials such as wood, paper, textiles, leather, rubbers and plastics. The RP-K product are effective at low humidity levels, and slowly absorb atmospheric oxygen without affecting the relative humidity in the package. They also contain activated carbon and absorb harmful gases such as SO2, HCI, and NH3. Unlike other oxygen absorbers, RP absorbers are not based on iron, but consist of unsaturated organic components, diatomaceous earth, polyethylene, Ca(OH)2, and an absorbent graphite compound.
RP-3K is suitable for 300mL of air. Sold in packs of 25 units.
RP-20K is suitable for 2000mL of air. Sold in packs of 10 units.
Application Instructions:
- Place your objects in a gas tight bag made of Escal or Escal/MarvelSeal.
- Open the bag of oxygen absorbers and add the appropriate quantity and an Ageless Eye indicator as quickly as possible. Calculations for correct quantity of packs to use can be found on RP brochure, page 7.
- First reseal the bag with the remaining absorbers with a bag clip
- Seal the bag with the object using a bag welder with a sealing width of at least 8mm. The reaction of the RP absorbers is very slow, so the temperature barely increases during the reaction. Since no water is released adding a humidity buffer is not necessary with RP-K.
- Within 2 days, the oxygen content drops from 20.9% to below 0.1% and the indicator turns pink.
- If the indicator turns blue again, the oxygen has risen above 0.5%. If this happens the bag, absorber, and indicator should be replaced the process repeated.
